A project involving surficial mapping and drift sampling was conducted in southeastern Manitoba to aid mineral exploration by developing drift prospecting methods suitable to the area.  This included the identification of chemical and mineralogical components of till associated with mineralization, the establishment of regional geochemical database to help determine background and anomalous concentrations of those components and understanding the Quaternary geology and glacial history of the area in order to interpret geochemical dispersal patterns.  The data are published in GSC Open File 2910.

In addition, a biogeochemical orientation survey was carried out in 1990 near the Tanco pegmatite (Bernic Lake area), and detailed studies were conducted there in 1991.  In 1992, a sampling program designed to evaluate the areal extent of geochemical haloes previously described was carried out.  A summary of the work can be found in Manitoba Department of Energy and Mines Report of Activities 1990, 1991 and 1992.

In 1993, detailed biogeochemical and surficial geochemical studies were conducted in two areas of known PGE mineralization (Bird River, English Brook) and follow-up work was completed near the Tanco pegmatite (Bernic Lake) in order to compare and contrast their distribution and to establish the optimum sample media to assist in exploration for concealed mineralization in these environments.  A summary of the work can be found in Manitoba Department of Energy and Mines Report of Activities 1993.
