Bacillus cereus Project, Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Quebec, 1985-1987.

Project Description

It has been shown that there is a correlation between the number of colonies of Bacillus Cereus in humic soil and underlying gold mineralization.  In fact, populations of Bacillus Cereus can be 10 to 100 times larger in the soil developed above of a gold-bearing vein than in the soils underlying a sterile bedrock.

Two soil surveys were carried out in 1985 and 1987 to determine if the bacteria Bacillus cereus could be used as a tracer for gold mineralization.

The results are published in Quebec Ministère de l’Énergie et des ressources reports MB 89-45 and MB 90-07.
