Survey Description

At the end of May in 1985, 80 soil samples were collected in the Val d’Or area, east of the former Louvem Mine, in northwestern Quebec.  Samples were taken below the A horizon in varved clays.  The soil horizons are not very developed on these materials so the samples come from the B and/or C horizon.  The spacing between the samples varied between 25 m (on the lines intersecting the known mineralization) and 100 m (on the lines located at the western end).

Samples were collected to study the bacteria Bacillus cereus in B horizon soil in glaciated areas and to determine if there is a correlation with underlying gold mineralization.  Samples were also analysed for a suite of geochemical element by ICP-MS and AAS.

The details of this study as well as the data and histograms are found in Ministère de l’Énergie et des ressources report MB 89-45.
