Survey Description

In 2014, stream sediment and water samples were collected in the Flat River area of the Mackenzie Mountains, Northwest Territories.  A total of 211 stream silt and water samples and 120 bulk stream sediment samples were collected from 199 sites covering an area of approximately 2850 km 2.  The bulk samples were processed for heavy minerals.

The data are published in Northwest Territories Geoscience Office, NWT Open Report 2015-002.

This survey was carried out using National Geochemical Reconnaissance (NGR) protocols.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers parts of NTS 95E (Flat River), 105H (Frances Lake) and 105I (Little Nahanni River) in the westernmost part of the Mackenzie Mountains, southwest Northwest Territories.  It is located approximately 350 km west of Fort Simpson and is bounded to the west by the Yukon-NWT border.

  • Covers a very small part of NTS 105I (Little Nahanni River; 6 samples) in the westernmost part of the Mackenzie Mountains, southwest Northwest Territories.  It is bounded to the west by the Yukon-NWT border.  The centre of the study area is located approximately 6 km south of latitude 63°N.
