Survey Description


During July and August 2008, regional stream sediment and water samples were collected at 329 sites in the Backbone and Canyon Ranges area of western Northwest Territories over an area of approximately 4,600 km2.

The data are published in Geological Survey of Canada Open File 6721/NWT Open Report 2010-010.

This survey was carried out using National Geochemical Reconnaissance (NGR) protocols.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers parts of NTS 106F (Snake River) and 106G (Ramparts River), the Backbone and Canyon Ranges area of west Northwest Territories.  Its western edge is the YT-NT border and it is located approximately 116 km west of the Mackenzie River.
