Survey Description

In August 2015, a helicopter supported reconnaissance regional drainage survey was carried out in central and eastern Axel Heiberg Island, Nunavut in three geologically distinct areas located between Expedition Fiord and Lightfoot River.  Stream sediment and water samples were collected.  Bulk sediment samples were also collected for the recovery of indicator minerals from the heavy mineral contents at selected sites.

Area Stream Silt and Water Samples Bulk Sediment Samples
Lightfoot River 28 11
Geodetic Hills 15 8
Expedition Fiord 26 10

A summary of the work can be found in Geological Survey of Canada Open Files 7976 (p. 36-41) and 8151 (p. 27-33).

The data are published in GSC Open File 8719.
