Survey Description

In the summers of 2008 and 2015, indicator mineral studies were carried out in the Strange Lake (informally named), area, Quebec and Newfoundland and Labrador.  The following samples were collected:

Sample Type Year Description Number of Samples
bedrock 2008 Strange Lake Main Zone 6
bedrock + float 2015 Strange Lake area 4 + 1
till 2015 15 kg; from fresh mudboils, 0.3-0.7 m depth 6

Archived till samples collected in 1981 and 1983 (GSC, unpublished) were composited into 5 new larger till samples for the recovery of heavy minerals.  Between five and nine archived till samples collected in close proximity to one another were composited into one larger (4-7 kg) till sample.

The data, including for the composited samples, are published in Geologcial Survey of Canada Open File 8240.
