Survey Description
In 1979 and 1980, semi-detailed and detailed studies were carried out around and over the Midwest and McClean Lake uranium deposits in northern Saskatchewan. Lake sediment and lake bottom water samples were collected.
Detailed surveys carried out in the anomalous areas of South McMahon Lake confirmed the semi-detailed results.
Groundwater samples from boreholes in the same area were also collected:
Area | Number of Boreholes | Number of Groundwater Samples |
Midwest Deposit | 22 | 500 |
McClean Lake | 8 | 70 |
A summary of the work (lake sediment and water) including statistics and some concentration maps can be found in Geological Survey of Canada Paper 82-11.
A summary of the borehole studies can be found in Geological Survey of Canada Open File 1224.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:
-
Covers part of the southeast corner of NTS 74I/8 (Henday Lake) in the area of the Midwest uranium deposit, northern Saskatchewan. The centre of the study area is located approximately 18 km northeast of Waterbury Lake and <8 km east of Henday and Hamilton lakes.
-
Covers part of NTS 64L/5 (Cunning Bay) in the area of the McClean Lake uranium deposit, northern Saskatchewan. The study area is located just north of latitude 58.25°N and approximately 12 km west of Wollaston Lake.
