Survey Description


In 1991, approximately 100 samples of black shale were colleccted in the Sherbrooke area of the Eastern Townships, southwest Quebec.  Till samples were collected at 10 of the sites.  The samples were collected for an arsenic study.

The data have not been published.

Geographic Extent

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers part of NTS 21E/14 (Disraeli) in the Eastern Townships region of southwest Quebec.  It is bounded to the east by 71°W longitude.  The southern part of Lac St François is located in the centre of the study area.

  • Covers part of NTS 21E/10 (Lac-Mégantic) in the Eastern Townships region of southwest Quebec.  It is bounded to the north by 45.75N latitude.  The towns of Audet and Lac-Drolet are located within the study area.

  • Covers part of the southeast corner of NTS 21L (Quebec) and a small part of the northeast corner of NTS 21E (Sherbrooke), just east of the Eastern Townships region of southwest Quebec.  Parts of the study area are bounded to the south and east by the Quebec-Maine border.  The western edge of the study area is located approximately 41 km east of the town of Thetford Mines.
