Survey Description
In 1983, till and soil sampling were carried out at the Great Gull scheelite prospects in central Newfoundland. Seventeen backhoe trenches were excavated to depths of up to 3 m. The complete profile of Bf-horizon soil and glacial sediments was sampled in each trench down to bedrock. Bf-horizon soil and underlying till were also collected on grids in the vicinity of the trenches and selectively elsewhere. An interpretation of the work can be found in Prospecting in Areas of Glaciated Terrain-1988, p.587.
Data Description:
Paper report, no data lists.
Quantities Analysed:
Soils sieved to <0.177 mm; till sieved to < 2 mm and ground to <0.075 mm. All samples analysed for Cu, Pb, Zn, Ag, Mo, Mn and Fe using a NHHO3/HCl digestion and AAS. F was determined by ion-selective electrode; Au by fire assay and AAS; W by fusion and colourimetry.
Geochem Maps Available:
Symbol map showing W distribution in whole till samples.
Other Analyses:
Heavy mineral concentrates.
