Survey Description

Samples of outer bark from lodgepole pine were collected in 1991 in the Mt. Milligan area of central British Columbia.  This survey was done in conjunction with a regional till sampling program in the same area.  Vegetation samples were collected on as even a grid as was practically possible, attaining an average sample density of approximately 1 site per 1 km2.  In zones of known mineralization, samples were more closely spaced.  Data from the 134 sites at which lodgepole pine bark samples were collected are published in Geological Survey of Canada Open File 3290/British Columbia Geological Survey Open File 1996-17.  These data can also be found in Canada Open File 3273/British Columbia Geological Survey Open File 1996-19, a digital suite of geoscience information.

Sampling Procedure

The outer bark was collected by scraping about 50 g of loose scales into a standard ‘kraft’ paper soil bag.  Care was taken not to include the inner bark because its composition is substantially different from that of the outer bark.

Diskette to accompany GSC Open File 3290 ( FileID=289 download )
This diskette contains two versions of the digital data for GSC Open File 3290.  The file OF3290.CSV is corrupt.  There are comma-delimited data in the file, but there is a binary header that should not be there.  The file OF3290.XLS is also corrupt.  MS-Excel does finally open it, but it reports that damage to the file is so extensive that repairs were not possible.  This corrupted diskette came from the GSC Bookstore.
