Survey Description

Profile samples were collected from peat hummocks and hollows at 41 sites and feather moss from 15 peatland sites within 100 km of the Horne smelter at Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec in 1997.  Mineral sediments from the base of the peat cores were also sampled.  The data are published in Geological Survey of Canada Open File 3882.

Data Description:

Paper report; data files on diskette.

Quantities Analysed:

OF 3882: Peat samples analyzed by ICP-AES after nitric-perchloric acid digestion for 23 elements and by LOI; feather moss by INAA for 23 elements; <0.063 mm fraction of mineral sediment samples by ICP-AES after HNO3-HCl digestion for 23 elements.

The samples were later analysed by ICP-AES after HNO3-HClO4 digestion.  In addition, 24 samples from 4 sites were analyzed by ICP-MS after a 4 step selective extraction.  These new data are published in Geological Survey of Canada Bulletin 584.

Geochem Maps Available:

Proportional symbol maps show dispersal of elements in surface peat.
