Survey Description
A total of 900 till samples were collected in the Beardmore-Geraldton area, northern Ontario in 1986-1989. 505 were collected from surface excavations and 395 from rotasonic drill core. Samples of glaciofluvial sediments were also collected at 87 sites. The data are published in GSC Open File 2266 and GSC Memoir 435.
Data Description:
Paper report or digital report; data files on diskette (OF 2266). Paper report (Memoir 435).
Quantities Analysed:
<0.063 and <0.002 mm fractions by ICP-AES after nitric/aqua regia digestion for 25 elements; <0.063 mm fraction by fire assay-AFS methods for Au, Pd, Pt (OF 2266). <0.063 mm and <0.002 mm fractions by ICP-AES after nitric-aqua regia digestion for 32 elements (Memoir 435).
Geochem Maps Available:
Proportional dot maps showing the regional dispersal of elements, gold grain, and selected heavy mineral components (OF 2266). Proportional symbol maps showing the dispersal of Au, As, Cu, and Ba in <0.063 mm fraction of till (Memoir 435).
Other Analyses:
Pebble lithologies (2-5.6 mm); total carbonate (Chittick) and concentration of heavy minerals for the following: gold grain counts, heavy mineral point counts, ICP-AES after a total extraction and fire assay/AFS for precious metals; SEM and geochemical analysis of selected gold and other heavy mineral grains (OF 2266). Grain-size (<2 mm); carbonate (<0.063 mm (Chittick)); pebble lithologies (5.6-16 mm fraction); heavy mineral concentrate for gold grain counts, non-magnetic heavy minerals for INAA analysis and kimberlite indicator minerals (0.25-2.0 mm fraction) and point counts (0.063-0.25 mm); selected kimberlite indicator minerals analyzed with SEM and microprobe and selected gold grains for microprobe analysis; (Memoir 435).
