Survey Description
In 1996, 112 one kg till samples were collected from the northern Contwoyto Lake map area, Nunavut. An additional 25 ten kg samples were collected at some of the sites for regional kimberlite indicator mineral and gold grain analysis. The till and gold grain data are published in GSC Open File 3654. The KIM data are published in GSC Open File 3768.
In addition to the 112 sites where samples were collected, glacial striae were measured at 70 sites to the north (NTS 76L).

Data Description:
Paper report; text and data files (WP 6.0, Excel 3.0) on diskette.
Quantities Analysed:
<0.002 mm fraction by ICP-ES after aqua regia for 28 elements and <0.063 fraction mm by INAA for 35 elements.
Geochem Maps Available:
Proportional symbol maps showing dispersal of selected elements.
Other Analyses:
Heavy mineral concentrate for kimberlite indicator minerals (GSC OF 3768); grain size.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

Covers the north half of NTS 76 E (Contwoyto Lake) in the Contwoyto Lake area, Nunavut. The centre of the study area is located approximately 104 km southeast of Takijuq Lake and 69 km east-southeast of Rockinghorse Lake.

Covers the south half of NTS 76L (Kathawachaga Lake) in Nunavut. The centre of the study area is located approximately 98 km east of Takijuq Lake.
