Survey Description

In 1994, 196 1-kg till samples were collected in the Point Lake map area, Northwest Territories and Nunavut.  The data are published in GSC Open File 3317.  Forty-seven additional 10 kg till samples were collected for kimberlite indicator mineral and gold grain analyses.  The gold grain results are published in GSC Open File 3317 and the KIM data in GSC OF 3341.

Data Description:

Paper report and 1 diskette (WP5.0, ASCII and Excel3.0 formats).

Quantities Analysed:

<0.002 mm fraction by ICP-AES after aqua regia (3HCl:1HNO3) for 28 elements;  <0.063 mm fraction by INAA for 35 elements.

Geochem Maps Available:

Proportional symbol maps showing region dispersal of elements in the <0.002 mm and <0.063 mm fractions of till.

Other Analyses:

Pebble lithologies; heavy mineral concentrate (47 samples) for gold grain counts (GSC OF 3317) and kimberlite indicator minerals (GSC OF 3341).

Heavy mineral concentrates from selected regional till samples were re-picked in 2011 for selected VMS indicator minerals and the new VMS indicator mineral data are published in Geological Survey of Canada Open File 7029.
