Survey Description
In the summer of 1980, 223 soil samples were collected within a 40 km radius around the smelter at Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec. The goal was to collect three sample types within a 1 km radius of each sampling site: an organic sample, a clay-rich sample with a small organic fraction and a sandy sample from soil developed above bedrock in order to delineate the area of potential contamination from the smelter.
Not all sample types were found at many sample sites. The following samples were collected: 108 clay samples, 73 organic samples and 42 sandy samples.
An interpretation of the data, as well as symbol maps of the geochemistry are found in Ministère de l’Énergie et des ressources report DP 87-03.
