Survey Description


In 1977, a heavy mineral sampling survey was conducted in the Gaspé Peninsula, Quebec.  The area covers 3000 km2.  A total of 272 samples were collected at an average density of 1 sample per 11 km2.  Samples were collected at the mouth of creeks, prepared for heavy mineral and visual identification (binocular).

The data are published in Open File MB 85-05, Department of Energy and Resources, 1985.  In 1988, a total of 170 concentrates were analyzed for As, Au, Br, Cs, Sb, Se, Tm, U, W (neutron activation) and results are published in Open File DP 88-13.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers NTS 22A/5 (Lac Mckay), /16 (Gaspé), 22G/1 (Sainte-Anne-des-Monts), 22H/1 (Petit-Cap), /2 (Cloridorme), /3 (Grande-Vallée, /4 (Mont-Louis), /5 (Mont-Louis).  The northeastern part of the Gaspé peninsula includes the cities of Sainte-Anne-des-Monts and Gaspé.  It is bounded by latitudes 48°45'N and 49°15'N and longitudes 64°11'W and 66°15'W.
