Survey Description


Between 1977 and 1982, the Department of Energy and Resources decided to undertake the whole covering of the Gaspé Peninsula.  The area covers 8500 km 2.  A total of 24203 stream sediments were collected at an average density of 1 sample per 0.4 km 2.  Samples were analysed for:

 

Element Dissolution Technique
Cu, Pb, Zn, Ni, Co, Mn, Mo, Ag, Sn   atomic absorption (AAS)
U   visual colorimetry or fluorimetry
Loss on ignition (LOI)    

 

The data are published in Open File DV 84-04, Department of Energy and Resources, 1984.  Samples collected by SOQUEM and other mapping surveys (DPV-563, ES-19, DPV-674, DPV-854, DP-55, DV 82-02) are included in this document.  Samples were reanalysed and data are published.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers NTS 22H/1 (Petit-Cap), /2 (Cloridorme), 22A/9 (Perce), /10 (Grande Rivière Nord), /11 (Mont Alexandre), /12 (Ruisseau Lesseps), /15 (Sunny-Bank), /16 (Gaspé).  The Murdochville-Gaspé area is situated in the Gaspé Peninsula.  It is bounded to the north by the St. Lawrence River.  It includes the cities of Gaspé, Percé and Murdochville.  It is bounded by latitudes 48°30' and 49°13' and longitudes 64°09' and 66°.

  • Covers part of NTS 22A/13 (Lac Madeleine).  The Lac Madeleine area is situated in the Gaspé Peninsula.  It is bounded by latitudes 48°51' and 49° and longitudes 65°37' and 65°50'.

  • Covers part of NTS 22B/8 (Rivière Angers).  The Rivière Angers area is situated in the Gaspé Peninsula.  It is bounded by latitudes 48°15' and 48°30' and longitudes 66° and 66°30'.
