Survey Description


In the fall of 1978, a groundwater sampling survey from domestic wells was conducted by Forage et Sondage national company.  The area covers 14,000 km2.  A total of 3812 samples were collected at an average density of 1 sample per 2.5 km2.  Samples were analysed for:

 

Element Dissolution Technique
Cd, Co, Cu, Mn, Mo, Ni, Pb, Zn, Ca, Fe, Mg, Na   atomic absorption (AAS)
K   flame emission
As   hydride generation (HG-AAS)
F, Cl, pH   specific electrode

 

The data are published in Open File DV 83-07, Department of Energy and Resources, 1984.  Raw data and sample sites are published in Open File DV 83-08.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers NTS 21N/7 (Lac-Baker), /10 (Cabano), /15 (Squatec), 22B/5 (Lac-Humqui), /6 (Causapscal), /11 (St-Jean-Baptiste-Vianney), /12 (Sayabec), /13 (Matane), /14 (Ste-Félicité) and 22C/1 (Lac Prime), /2 (Lac des Baies), /7 (Rimouski), /8 (Sainte-Blandine), /9 (Mont-Joli).  The Bas-Saint-Laurent area includes the Matane, Rimouski, Matapédia and Témiscouata regions.  It is limited to the north by the St. Lawrence River.  It is bounded by latitudes 47°15' and 49° and longitudes 67° and 69°.
