Survey Description
In September 1950, a biogeochemical survey was carried out over the Needle Mountain copper deposit of the Gaspé Copper Mines Ltd., to determine the copper and zinc content in the twigs of balsam fir trees. Each sample was made up of 15 to 20 twigs with 2-3 years of growth taken from the lower branches of trees near the sampling site. In order to check the values of the 29 samples obtained on the Gaspé Copper Mines claims, a number of samples were taken from other areas outside the known zone of mineraliztion, including on the Holland Gaspé claims (9 samples). The area sampled covers 27 km2 and the samples were collected at an average density of 1 sample per 0.6 km2.
The data are published in the preliminary report PR-269, Department of Mines, 1952.
