Survey Description

In 1984, a soil sampling survey was conducted around the Sullipek Mine in central Gaspé, Quebec.  The area covers 170 km 2.  A total of 215 samples were collected at an average density of 1 sample per 0.8 km 2.  At each site, samples were collected from the B and C horizons developed over glacial deposits.  Only The < 177 μm fraction from the B horizon was analyzed.  Samples from C horizon were screened in 3 fractions: between 500 and 63 μm, <177 μm and <63 μm.

The fraction between 500 and 63 μm was prepared for heavy minerals which were identified using a binocular microscope.

All fractions were analyzed for:

Element Dissolution Technique
Ag, Al, B, Ba, Be, Ca, Cd,  Co, Cr, Cu, Eu, Fe, K, La, Li, Mg, Mn, Mo, Na, Ni, P, Pb, Sc, Sm, Sr, Th, Ti, U, V, Y, Zn   inductively coupled plasma emission (ICP-ES)
Loss on ignition (LOI)

The data are published in Quebec Ministère de l’Énergie et des Ressources manuscript brut MB 88-27.
