Survey Description
In late August and early September 1987, lake sediment and water samples were collected in a 375 km 2 area centred on Wart Lake, 74 km north of Sault Ste. Marie, northern Ontario.
Sediment core samples and a 1L water sample were collected from 392 lakes in this first year of a three year study of the eastern end of the Batchawana Greenstone Belt.
The cores were extruded to provide a pre-Ambrosia subsample (below 18 cm in the core) and a post-Ambrosia subsample (from the 0 to 10 cm section of the core) but only the pre-Ambrosia sediments were analysed.
The study is described in Ontario Geological Survey Miscellaneous Paper MP137 (Summary of Field Work and Other Activities 1987).
Data from this survey are compiled in the Trout Lake regional geochemical map sheet, OGS Map M80803. The data used in this compilation are published in OGS Miscellaneous Release Data MRD005.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

Covers part of NTS 41N/01 (Batchewana) in northern Ontario. The centre of the study area is located approximately 25 km south of Montreal River and 52 km north-northeast of Sault Ste. Marie. Trout Lake is found in the southern part of the study area.
