Survey Description

In August 1986, 4Lwater samples and lake sediment cores were collected from 138 lakes in the Sturgeon River area, 65 km northeast of Sudbury, northern Ontario.

The survey, which is the culmination of work carried out since 1980, studies the relationships between geochemistry/limnology and remote sensing.

In order to distinguish between recent anthropogenic inputs ot lake sediments and historical concentrations, the lake sediment cores were separated into two subsamples: the "pre-Ambrosia" sample (depths >18 cm), representing sediment which was laid down in excess of ~100 years ago, and the "post-Ambrosia" sample, (the top 10 cm of the core).

The data and a detailed description of the study are published on Ontario Geological Survey Map M80799.
