Survey Description

In March 1984, six lakes north and east of Lake Superior were cored through the ice to obtain long cores of lake sediment.  Furnival Lake northwest of Wawa and 5 other lakes chosen to represent different limnoiogical and geochemical conditions were sampled.

The cores were used to interpret the geochemical stratigraphy and to draw conclusions about the possible role of long cores in future regional geochemical surveys which include an environmental (acid rain) component.

The data and a detailed description of the study are published on Ontario Geological Survey Map M80757.
