Survey Description

In 1993, till samples were collected in the Sultan-Rollo Lake area of northern Ontario as part of a multi-year regional till sampling and surficial mapping program covering the Swayze Greenstone Belt.

Samples were collected at a regional scale from road cuts, trenches and hand-dug pits at an average sampling density of 1 sample per 4 km2 using a 2 km grid pattern.  At each site, samples of humus, B horizon and C horizon were collected lithological, mineralogical and/or geochemical analysis.  C horizon samples were processed for heavy minerals and pebble counts.

Detailed surveys were carried out at the site of the old Kenty gold mine and at the site of the Shunsby Cu-Zn deposit in order to compare the response of various surface media to known mineralization.
