Survey Description

During the summer of 1987, helicopter (97%) and truck (3%) supported stream sediment and water collection was carried out in the Iskut River area, northwestern British Columbia.  Samples were collected from 661 sites at an average density of one site per 12.5 km2 throughout the 8,200 km2 survey area.  Duplicate samples were routinely collected from a site once in each analytical block of twenty samples.  The data are published in British Columbia Ministry of Energy and Petroleum Resources Regional Geochemical Survey RGS 18/Geological Survey of Canada Open File 1645.

This survey was carried out using National Geochemical Reconnaissance (NGR) protocols.

Sampling Procedure

Stream sediment samples ideally comprise 2 – 4 kg of sand size and finer inorganic material collected from low energy sites within the stream.  Large Kraft paper sample bags were used to ensure sufficient fines were collected.  Stream waters were taken using 250 mL Nalgene plastic bottles flushed out with water from the stream prior to collection of the sample.
