Survey Description

In 1996, stream sediment and water samples were collected in a helicopter-supported survey in the Toodoggone River map area, British Columbia.  A total of 963 stream sediment and 961 stream water samples were collected from 909 sites.  The average sample site density was 1 site per 12.5 km2 over the 11,500 square kilometre survey area.  Field duplicate samples were collected in each analytical block of twenty samples.  Samples were not collected in Spatsizi Plateau Wilderness Park and Tatlatui Provincial Park.  The data are published in British Columbia Regional Geochemical Survey RGS 46.

This survey was carried out using National Geochemical Reconnaissance (NGR) protocols.

Sampling Procedure

Primary and secondary drainage basins with catchment areas of less than 10 km2 were sampled.  Sediment samples weighing 1 to 2 kg were obtained from the active stream channel.  Samples were primarily fine-grained material mixed with varying amounts of coarse sand, gravel and organic material.  Surface water samples were collected in 250 mL bottles and suspended solids were excluded where possible.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers most of NTS 94E (Toodoggone River) in north central British Columbia except Spatsizi Plateau Wilderness Park to the west and Tatlatui Provincial Park to the south.  It also excludes the very southwest corner of NTS 94E.

  • Covers the southwest corner of NTS 94E (Toodoggone River) in north-central British Columbia.  It is bounded to the north by Spatsizi Plateau Wilderness Park and to the east by Tatlatui Provincial Park.
