Survey Description
In 2015 and 2016, 47 samples were collected on Banks Island, Nunavut. The samples will be processed for kimberlite indicator minerals:
Sample Type | Number of Samples |
Stream sediment | 29 + 1 duplicate |
Till | 5 |
Unconsolidated fluvial sediment (Beaufort Formation) | 8 |
Glaciofluvial sediment | 3 |
Sandstone (Isachsen Formation) | 2 |
Till samples were collected from hand-dug holes 50-70 cm deep. Stream sediment samples were collected from locations that would preferentially trap heavy minerals.
A description of the study is published in Geological Survey of Canada Open File 7972.
The data are published in GSC OF 8726.
