Survey Description


In 2011, a helicopter-supported high-density lake sediment and water survey was conducted over ~5,500 km2 in the Alexis River area, southeastern Labrador.

In total, lake sediment and water samples were collected at 833 sites, and lake water only at 21 sites.

The data are published in Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Natural Resources Open File 013A/0089.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers parts of NTS 13A/02 (untitled), 13A/07 (untitled), 13A/08 (St. Lewis Inlet), 13A/10 (untitled), 13A/14 (untitled) and 13A/15 (Jeffries Pond) in the Alexis River area, southeastern Labrador.  It is located just northeast of the Quebec-Labrador border and approximately 25 km west of the coast of the Labrador Sea.  The towns of Mary’s Harbour and Port Hope Simpson lie 10 km and 15 km east respectively, of the study area.
