Survey Description
During the summer of 1987, soil, rock and stream geochemical surveys were conducted in portions of NTS 23G and 23J, western Labrador.
Sampling grids were established in 17 areas and 925 samples of B- horizon soil were collected. Stream sediment samples (n=78) were collected to complement soil surveys and to fill in where soil samples could not be collected. Grab samples of rock (n=172) were also collected.
The soil data and selected stream sediment and rock data are published in Department of Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Mines and Energy Open File LAB/0842.
The bedrock gold analyses are published in NL Department of Mines Open File LAB/0735.
The stream sediment data are also part of a compilation, NL Department of Natural Resources Open File LAB/1589.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

Covers parts of NTS 23J/02 (McPhadyen River), 23J/03 (untitled), 23J/06 (Lac Desliens), 23J/07 (Menihek Lakes) and the Labrador portion of 23J/11 (Lac Clugny) in western Labrador. The centre of the study area is located approximately 55 km southwest of Schefferville, Quebec and it is located just south of the Quebec-Labrador border. It covers 16 smaller areas where sampling grids were established.

Covers a small part of NTS 23G/07 (Sawbill Lake) in western Labrador. It is located just east of the Quebec-Labrador border. It represents a small sampling area known as Area #17.
