Survey Description


Lake sediment samples were collected at 2129 sites and samples of lake water at 2234 sites using a float-equipped helicopter.  In most cases, the centre of the lake was sampled.

The data are published in Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Natural Resources Open File LAB/1538.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers NTS 2M/13 (Chateau Point), 3D/04 (St Peter Bay), 3D/05 (Fox Harbour), 3D/12 (Francis Harbour), 3D/13 (Snug Harbour), 13A/01 (Chateau Point), 13A/9 (Port Hope Simpson), 13A/16 (White Bear Arm), most of 13H (Cartwright) and part of 12P (Blanc-Sablon) in southeast Labrador.  It is bounded to the south by the Strait of Belle Isle and to the east by Labrador Sea.  The northern part of the study area lies to the east of Sandwich Bay.
