Survey Description
Starting on June 17, 1981, 1959 lake sediment samples were collected on the Great Northern Peninsula and in central Newfoundland. Sites were sampled at an average density of one site per 4.4 km2 across the 8,100 km2 survey area. The data were published in the following Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Mines and Energy Open Files:

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

Covers parts of NTS 2M/5, 6 (both St. Anthony), 2M/11 (Quirpon), 12 (Raleigh) at the northern tip of the Great Northern Peninsula, northern Newfoundland. It is bounded to the north by Strait of Belle Isle and to the east by the Labrador Sea. The town of Goose Cove East is located in the far southeast part of the study area.

Covers parts of NTS 2L/13 (Groais Island), 2M/4 (St. Julien’s) and 12I/16 (Roddickton), on the northeast part of the Great Northern Peninsula, in northern Newfoundland. It is located south of Hare Bay and north of the town of Englee. It is bounded to the east by the Atlantic Ocean.

Covers parts of NTS 12H (Sandy Lake), 12I (Port Saunders) and 12P (Blanc-Sablon) on the Great Northern Peninsula, northern Newfoundland and central Newfoundland. It is bounded to the east by the Atlantic Ocean. It includes the unincorporated area of Millertown Junction in the south, and Ten Mile Lake is located at its northern extent.
