Survey Description


Between June 18 and August 1, 1980, 2593 lake sediment samples were collected from 2450 sites in northeastern Newfoundland.  Sites were sampled at an average density of one site per 7 km2 over the 17,000 km2 survey area.  The data are published in four open files, one for each NTS sheet as well as a compilation open file which combines all four OFs:

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers parts of NTS 2C, D, E, F (Bonavista, Gander Lake, Botwood, Wesleyville) northeastern Newfoundland.  It is bounded to the north by Notre Dame Bay and to the east by the Atlantic Ocean.  The city of Gander is located approximately in the centre of the study area.
