Survey Description
In 1975, centre lake bottom sediments were collected on the western and eastern parts of the Avalon Peninsula, southeastern Newfoundland. The data are published in Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Mines and Energy Open File NFLD/0879. Data for As and F were released in Open File NFLD/0894. Data from this area were also released as part of a compilation in Open File NFLD/0904.
Samples from these areas were reanalyzed by INAA and published with other reanalyses from the region:

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:
-
Covers parts of NTS 1L/16 (St. Bride’s), 1M/1 (Ship Cove), 1K/13 (St. Mary’s) and 1N/4, 5, 12, 13 (Placentia, Argentia, Dildo, Sunnyside) on the western Avalon Peninsula, southeastern Newfoundland. It is bounded to the west by Placentia Bay and to the northeast by Tickle, Trinity and Collier Bays.
-
Covers parts of NTS 1K/14, 15 (Biscay Bay River, Renews) and 1N/2, 3, 6, 7 (Ferryland, St. Catherine’s, Holyrood, Bay Bulls) on the eastern Avalon Peninsula, southeastern Newfoundland. It is bounded to the east by the Atlantic Ocean. The Trans-Canada Highway runs through the northwest part of the study area and the city of St. John's is located approximately 48 km northeast of the centre of the study area.
-
Covers parts of NTS 1N/10 (St. John’s) and 1N/15 (Pouch Cove) on the northern tip of the eastern part of the Avalon Peninsula, southeastern Newfoundland. It is bounded to the east by the Atlantic Ocean and by Conception Bay to the west.
