Survey Description

In 2001, a total of 372 one kilogram till samples were collected in the Alexis River area, southeast Labrador.  C-horizon samples were collected at an average depth of 55 cm from hand-dug pits 40-70 cm deep.  If no C-horizon was available, B- or BC- horizon samples were taken at average depths of 45 and 50 cm respectively.  Sample spacing was approximately 1 sample per 5 km 2 in map area 13A/10, 1 sample per 31 km 2 in map area 13A/14 and 1 per 7 km 2 in NTS 13A/15.  The data are published in Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Mines and Energy Open File 013A/0046.

Data Description:

Paper report with data diskette.  Report now available on CD.

Quantities Analysed:

<0.180 mm fraction by INAA for a large suite of elements; by ICP-ES after HF-HClO 4-HCl total digestion for an extensive suite of elements; by AAS after HF-HClO 4-HCl for Cr, Mo; by AAS after HNO 3-HCl for Cd, Co, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb, and Zn; by AAS after HNO 3 for Ag; by fluoride-ion selective electrode associated after fusion with Na 2CO 3-KNO 3 flux for F.

Geochem Maps Available:

Symbol maps show the distribution of selected elements in till.

Samples from this survey were reanalyzed for fluoride and the data are published in a compilation (Open File LAB/1778) with samples collected from across Labrador between 1983 and 2004.
