Survey Description

In August 2012, regional till sampling was carried out in the Knee Lake area, Manitoba.  In total, 68 samples weighing ~2 kg each were collected.  An additional 57 till samples were collected for lithological analysis from areas where till was sampled for geochemical analysis during Operation Superior.

Surface samples were collected from the B, B/C or C soil horizon in hand-dug pits at depths between 25 and 130 cm.

Samples of till (11.4 L pails) were also collected from 23 new target sites and were processed, picked and analyzed by electron microprobe by De Beers for kimberlite indicator minerals.

The data are published in Manitoba Geological Survey (MGS) Geoscientific Paper GP2013-3.

This report includes KIM data from samples collected in 1999-2001 in the area during Operation Superior and previously published in MGS Open File Report OF2002-1.

The data are also part of two compilations in Manitoba Agriculture and Resource Development open files OF2020-2 and OF2020-3 (superseded by GeoFile 2-2022).
