Tehery-Cape Dobbs-Wager Project (GEM + GEM-2), Nunavut, 2012, 2015-2016

Project Description

The main objective of this project is to improve geoscience knowledge to support informed decision making for resource exploration and development, and for land use management.

In 2012, till and stream sediment/water sampling was carried out in Nunavut, south of Wager Bay in the Tehery Cape Dobbs region as part of the Geo-mapping Frontiers project, initiated in the final phase the Geomapping for Energy and Minerals (GEM) program.

In 2015 and 2016, till and stream sediment/water sampling was completed south of Wager Bay in the Tehery-Wager area as part of the surficial component of the GEM-2 Tehery-Wager activity within the Rae project. (GEM-2).

Project Funding

The Geo-Mapping for Energy and Minerals Program was first launched by the Government of Canada in 2008 as a 5 year program administered by Natural Resources Canada to provide geoscience knowledge in order to identify the potential for energy and mineral resources in Canada's North.  The program was renewed in 2013, and Phase 2 of GEM (2013-2020) continues to advance geological knowledge in the North to support increased exploration of natural resources and to inform decisions on land use that balance conservation and responsible resource development.
