EXTECH-I, Snow Lake area multi-disciplinary project, central Manitoba, 1990-1991

Project Description

This project is part of the Exploration Science and Technology (EXTECH) program which was initiated in 1989 in response to declining Canadian base metal reserves.  The objective was to improve concepts and technologies applicable to exploration in established base metal areas by integrating geology, geochemistry and geophysics.  As part of the project, vegetation samples were collected near the Chisel North Zn-Cu massive sulphide deposit.  Detailed soil and till samples were also collected around the Chisel Lake, Ghost Lake and Lost Lake mines.

Regional till sampling was also carried out by the Manitoba Geological Survey in the Snow Lake-File Lake area in 1990 and 1991.  A summary of the work can be found in Manitoba Energy and Mines, Report of Activities 1990 and 1991 and the data are published in Manitoba Geological Survey Data Repository Item DRI2020022.

An interpretation of these studies can be found in Geological Survey of Canada Bulletin 426.  The data are part of a compilation, Geological Survey of Canada Open File 7064.
