Northeastern Ontario peat sampling survey, 1994

Project Description

Peat and underlying mineral sediment were collected from the Kinosheo Lake bog and Detour Lake bogs #1 and #2 in 1994 in northeastern Ontario.  The project was designed to study remote peat bogs as repositories of naturally occurring and anthropogenic metals.  In addition to providing baseline data on geochemical variation in peat sequences, results from this study provide some information on the history of the boreal forest in the area south of James Bay.  The data are published in Geological Survey of Canada Bulletin 545.
