Great Island area project, northern Manitoba, 1986
Project Description
Samples collected in northern Manitoba during surficial geological mapping in 1977-1980 were previously analysed for uranium and base metals. The geochemical results showed that surface tills in the general vicinity of Great Island and as far south as the North Knife River had anomalously high arsenic values. In 1986, twenty-six till samples were therefore analysed for gold and reanalyzed for arsenic. The data are published in GSC Current Research Paper 86-01A.
Based on the Au and As results, the Manitoba Geological Survey collected 34 samples (27 till, 7 marine sand) in 1986 in the Seal River area, east of Great Island, northern Manitoba. The data are published in Manitoba Energy and Mines Open File Report OF87-1.
