Southwestern Quebec till sampling survey, 1982

Project Description

A program of systematic overburden sampling was initiated in the Gatineau, Quebec region in 1982.  It was a continuation of similar work carried out in adjoining parts of southeastern Ontario.  The project was designed to quantify regional variation in drift composition in order to provide baseline data for use in assessing the sensitivity of the terrain to the effects of acid rain.  Much of the information obtained from the study can also be used as an aid to mineral exploration in the area.  The data are published in GSC Open File 1899 and as part of a big Ontario-Quebec summary and interpretation in GSC Bulletin 463.
