Lac Shortt Drilling Project, Abitibi, northwestern Quebec, 1988-1989

Project Description

In 1988 and 1989, two phases of reverse circulation drilling were carried out on 3 properties near Lac Opawica in the Abitibi Greenstone Belt in northwestern Quebec: Boyvinet, Lesparance and Lesueur (west and north).

Overburden and bedrock chip samples were collected from 149 holes in 1988 and 87 holes in 1989 in order to delineate zones of bedrock deformation and/or alteration that could host epigenetic gold mineralization and to test for glacially dispersed mineralization indicative of sub-cropping gold deposits.

The data are published in reports GM 48504 and GM 48868 submitted to the Government of Quebec.
