Gahnite Indicator Mineral Project, 1988-1993.

Project Description

In 1988, till samples were collected in the Montauban area by Sial Internationale for the Quebec Ministry of Natural Resources.  In 1993, stream sediments were collected in the Lac Dussault area by SOQUEM in a cooperative project with the Quebec Ministry.  The samples were processed for heavy minerals.

The primary objective of this research project is to characterize the dispersion of gahnite and other minerals of interest near deposits at Montauban and Dussault. The second objective is to establish the relative usefulness of various heavy minerals for better detection and identification of exploration targets using detrital material from metallotects.

A summary of the work, including maps of gahnite abundances can be found in Ministère des Ressources naturelles du Québec report MB 94-42.
