Base Metal Anomalies in Lake Sediments Project, Labrador, 1998-1999

Project Description

The Newfoundland and Labrador Geological Survey carried out a two-year program in central Labrador to investigate regional base metal anomalies in reconnaissance lake sediments collected by the Geological Survey of Canada.

During 1998, high-density lake-sediment and water geochemical surveys were conducted in four areas of central Labrador: Wilson Lake, Harp Lake, Seal Lake and near the Pants Lake intrusion.   Samples were collected in areas regarded as prospective for nickel, copper and possibly gold mineralization.

From the 1998 work, the Wilson Lake and Seal Lake areas were chosen for soil/till survey in 1999.  In addition, 16 rock samples were collected.

The data are published in open files LAB/1311 (lake sediments) and LAB/1327 (till).
