## Pyrope

**Pyrope**

Pyrope is a member of the garnet group, with the general formula X^{2+}
_{3}Y^{3+}
_{2}(SiO4)_{3}. The composition of pure pyrope is Mg_{3}Al_{2}(SiO_{4})_{3}, although typically other elements are present in at least minor proportions; these other elements include Ca, Cr, Fe and Mn. Pyrope forms a solid solution series with almandine and spessartine.
