GSC-NC-2005-Wager Bay 56G Till: GSC electron microprobe analysis

Bundle Description

403 picked grains of diopside, pyrope and chromite and a selection of grains identified as olivine from Overburden Drilling Management (picked from till samples of the Wager Bay area (NTS 56G) were probed for 12 major and minor oxides using the electron microprobe laboratory at the Geological Survey of Canada. One chromite grain was probed for 15 major and minor oxides. A ZAF correction matrix was used in processing the data. Minerals were identified and classified (and reclassified) on the basis of chemical composition. Prefixes were added to some of the mineral classification to emphasize petrogenetically critical elements with threshold values based on classification of other GSC authors (Ward et al., 1995; Kjarsgaard et al., 2004).
