Survey Description


In August 2015, samples of seaweed (rockweed [fucus gardneri]) were collected at 34 stations around Howe Sound, southwest British Columbia.  Samples (~100 g) were plucked from the rocks at intervals of 2-5 km along the shore, with additional samples where streams were seen draining into the sea.  A total of 43 samples (including controls) were submitted for geochemical analysis.

The data are published in Explore (Newsletter for the Association of Applied Geochemists), no. 178.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers parts of NTS 92G/6 (North Vancouver) and 92G/11 (Squamish) in the area of Howe Sound, southwest British Columbia.  The study area extends from the northern part of Bowen Island to Squamish at the head of the sound.  Anvil and Gambier islands are found within the study area.
