Survey Description


During the summer of 1978, a lake sediment sampling survey was conducted by the Société de Développement de la Baie James (SDBJ), in the James Bay region.  The area covers approximately 18,340 km2 and a total of 3443 samples were collected at an average density of 1 sample per 5.3 km2.  Samples were analysed for Cu, Pb, Zn, Ni, Co, Mn, Mo, Ag, Fe, Li and U.

The data are published in Open File GM-38181, Department of Energy and Resources, 1982.  Maps are also available in Open File GM-38000, Department of Energy and Resources, 1982.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers NTS 33K (Rivière Denys), 33L (Pointe Louis-XIV), 33E (Rivière au Castor) and 33F (Lac Sakami).  The Lac Julian area is situated in the Nord-du-Québec region.  It includes Fort George and is limited to the west by James Bay.  It is bounded by latitudes 53° and 55° and longitudes 76° and 79°45'.
