Survey Description

In the summers of 2011, 2012 and 2013, till (and other sediment) sampling was carried out on Hall Peninsula, southern Baffin Island, Nunavut.  Samples weighing ~2 kg and ~10 kg were collected for geochemistry and heavy minerals respectively.  Samples were collected with an average spacing of 10-20 km throughout the study area, with denser sampling (5-10 km) in areas of elevated mineral potential and at an average spacing of 20-30 km in remote islands to the northeast.

* 203 till samples (or till mixed with regolith), 17 regolith samples, 7 glaciofluvial sediment samples, 10 glaciolacustrine samples and 1 marine sediment sample.

A subset of the samples was reanalysed in 2020 and the data are published in Canada-Nunavut Geoscience Office Geoscience Data Series GDS2021-002 along with other data from central Nunavut.
