Survey Description


In 2009, till samples were collected in the central and northern parts of Melville Peninsula, Nunavut.  Samples were collected from the active layer of frost boils.  A total of 305 two kg samples were collected for geochemistry and 209 bulk 10 kg samples for heavy minerals.

The data are published in Geological Survey of Canada Open File 7115.

A subset of the samples was reanalysed in 2020 and the data are published in Canada-Nunavut Geoscience Office Geoscience Data Series GDS2021-002 along with other data from central Nunavut and Baffin Island.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers parts of NTS 47A (Hall Lake), B (Committee Bay), C (Encampment Bay), D (Igloolik) and parts of NTS 46N (Miertsching Lake), 46O (Barrow River), central and northern Melville Peninsula, Nunavut.  It is bounded to the west by Committee Bay and to the east by Foxe Basin.
